We know Teachers work hard to help us with our education, and when you think of lunch you know its food, but what you don’t know is what happens behind the scenes. There are many  devoted and committed people that make our important everyday lunch behind the scenes.

Mrs. Sandra Bueno is one of those devoted and inspired people.

Bueno recently was voted as the school’s SRP of the Year (Student Related Personnel). Bueno has been helping students each day eat better and feel better, and now has finally been rewarded for her hard work and dedication. While Bueno has been a part of Fivay High School since it opened, her story goes much further back that.

“I was born in the Dominican Republic in 1962,” Bueno exclaimed. “I was the 5th born of a family of 8 siblings, When I was 2 my Mother moved to NYC, searching for a better life”.

A year later, Bueno’s mother came back for both her and her siblings.

“The majority of my upbringing took place in Washington Heights, a neighborhood in upper Manhattan.” Bueno said, “Growing up in a city wasn’t easy, especially with a large family, so by 14, I had my first job at a department store. Within a few years, I was promoted into a management roll. Unfortunately, after 9 years the store filed for bankruptcy and closed its doors.”

Shortly after, Bueno met her Husband to be, Angel. Her daughter was born in 1991 and her son in 1994. Bueno soon after decided to become a foster mother. A family of five brothers was placed in her care. One day, after dropping the kids off at school, Bueno was approached by school faculty and offered a job as a school aide. Her duties included assisting teachers, lunch, monitoring, and office administration.

“I was there for 10 years and I loved every minute of it,” Bueno added. “New York City gave my family many great opportunities, but I wanted my kids to be in a safer environment.”

In 2006, Bueno moved to Florida and found a place for her future.

“The first place to welcome me with open arms was the Pasco County School District.” Bueno said, “I’ve held a position at Calusa Elementary, River Ridge Middle and High School, and am currently employed at Fivay. My greatest accomplishment has been working at Fivay High School as a food nutrition assistant. I’m honored to be the SRP of Fivay and honored to be considered as our District SRP!”
