“The duty of journalists is to tell the truth. Journalism means you go back to the actual facts, you look at the documents, you discover what the record is, and you report it that way.” –Naom Chompsky (professor and author).

I thought of this quote when I was asked what I wanted to see for The Talon this year. So many thoughts and ideas came to mind, but I had to narrow my focus down to just a few.

I want you guys, the readers, to receive comprehensible coverage of the topics. I want you to be able to read the story and understand what was written.

Many times people will read a story and end up with little to no information. I want you to feel comfortable knowing that you were well informed about an event and the coverage is trustworthy.

By being trustworthy, I mean, you guys will receive facts straight from the source. We at the Talon will never approach a topic negatively. We feel that we should promote our school and not give you a reason to lose trust in us.  We want you guys to want to continue reading and by putting out negative content it will deter you.

Along with being trustworthy, our paper will strive to provide you with punctual news coverage. You won’t be reading a story about something that happened 5 days ago. We will do our best to try to give you stories in a timely manner. Stories will be uploaded weekly to our website, as well as the new magazine sent out during winter and spring.

Another thing we want to provide the student body is variety. We want each and everyone of you to come back to our paper and website for a variety of different reasons. The Talon will be going more digital than previously. We will be putting our stories onto our website, and sending the links out through Twitter. You will be able to easily access information about our school just about any time.

I guess what it all boils down to is we want you to enjoy what you are reading and helping build up the Fivay culture and brand.

Thank you for reading
