Fivay’s girls basketball team takes their win to another championship game

The girls’ varsity basketball team at Fivay Highschool has been on a 6 game win streak. This week alone they’ve won 2 games against Land o’ Lakes, with an end score of 38-28, and Gulf Highschool, with an end score of 57-23.The team’s confidence and excitement are at an all time high with their district championship game this Friday.
“I think this will be a close game. It definitely won’t be easy so I know we are going to have to go harder than usual. Our biggest struggle is fouling so as long as we stay focused and don’t get set back I think we have a good chance at beating them again,” Jania Jones (‘22) said.
The game will be hosted at River Ridge Highschool against River Ridge. The Falcons beat the Knights in a previous game of 50-43 this season, so their nerves are up for this game. Both teams know how the other plays so hopefully our strategies pay off.
“We just need to not be in our head so much, we tend to rush so keeping our composure is crucial. To keep our composure we normally all just group together and talk each other through it during our timeout and try to keep everyone focused,” Savannah Shaffer (‘21) said.
Coach Love has been with these girls since the beginning and is more than proud of their accomplishments. Coach Love and the girls make a great team by putting in hard work at practices and games to get where they are now.
“I’d remind them to not get too hyped just yet but I am happy for them, that all their hard work in the off season is paying off for them. I want to tell the girls that they should enjoy the moment, you guys deserve all the success you are getting,” Love said.
